Polish multi-energy group ORLEN S.A. today announced its entry into the Austrian market by acquiring 266 petrol stations operated under the Turmöl brand. The transaction will make the company one of the three largest petrol station networks in Austria, with a market share of ten per cent. The transaction was initiated by ORLEN Deutschland GmbH, which also worked closely with the Polish parent group throughout the process.
The Polish group ORLEN S.A. will now become the owner of 266 state-of-the-art petrol stations through the 100% acquisition of Doppler Energie, the operator of the Austrian grid and formerly part of the Doppler Group. The stations, currently operated under the brand name Turmöl, span the whole of Austria and are among the most popular networks in the country. Almost half of the petrol stations to be purchased are unmanned automatic stations, which allow customers to purchase and pay for fuel directly at the pump. In addition, more than 130 petrol stations offer shopping facilities and around 80 offer catering and refreshments. 25 locations are equipped with modern photovoltaic systems.
"ORLEN Deutschland closely followed the transaction process from the very beginning and was instrumental in its successful completion. We are delighted that, together with our Polish colleagues, we will be able to realise the entry into the Austrian market and thus further develop the ORLEN Group”, says Piotr Guział, Chief Development Officer at ORLEN Deutschland.
The transaction package also includes a network of electric car charging stations with 35 charging points in 29 different locations, operated under the Turmstrom brand. In addition, the purchase also includes the acquisition of Austrocard, a petrol card provider for private and business customers that is currently accepted at over 500 locations across Austria.
Through the expansion into Austria, ORLEN’s customers have access to a comprehensive and modern network of more than 3,400 petrol stations in seven Central European countries. Daniel Obajtek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ORLEN S.A. says: "We have created a modern group that is rapidly strengthening its position in Europe. By 2030, we wanted to build an ORLEN network of 3,500 petrol stations in the region and, after entering the Austrian market, we will be implementing our strategic assumptions much faster".
The transaction is subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities and is expected to be completed in late 2023 or early 2024.
